(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers have struggled to pick up wins over the St. Louis Blues in recent seasons. Playing without their captain on Monday night wont help either. The Rangers bring a banged-up defensive unit into this meeting with the red- hot St. Louis Blues at Madison Square Garden. The Blueshirts have gone 4-1-1 over their past six games and play the third contest of a four-game homestand tonight. Theyll do so without captain Ryan McDonagh and fellow defenseman Kevin Klein, further depleting the clubs blue line. McDonagh suffered a separated left shoulder in Saturdays 1-0 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets and is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks. Klein also exited in the first period on Saturday with a bruised foot and will sit out tonight. New York already is missing free agent signee Dan Boyle due to a broken hand, while defenseman John Moore on Saturday served the first contest of his five- game ban for an illegal check last Monday versus Minnesota. Thanks to 25 saves by Henrik Lundqvist and lengthy gutsy efforts by defenseman Dan Girardi and Marc Staal, the Rangers kept the Jets off the board until the shootout. Lundqvist, though, was beaten by Evander Kane and Blake Wheeler in the tiebreaker, while Mats Zuccarello scored for the Rangers before Rick Nash, Dominic Moore and Martin St. Louis were all denied by Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. We played a real strong game, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. (The loss) wasnt for lack of effort or execution. We played one of our best games of the year. Girardi logged 34 minutes and 50 seconds of ice time, while Staal was credited with 29:33 of work. The duo could be called again heavily tonight as the Rangers try to beat the Blues for just the third time in the past 10 meetings. They snapped a three- game series losing streak with a 3-2 win in St. Louis on Oct. 9, but have still lost three in a row and seven of eight at MSG in this series. Rick Nash scored twice and assisted on Chris Kreiders third-period tally when the clubs opened the season against each other, while Lundqvist had 23 saves. The Blues got 22 stops by Brian Elliott and goals from Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko. Tarasenko has six goals on the season, with five coming in the past three games. He had a hat trick in a win over Dallas on Oct. 28, then scored twice in Saturdays 3-2 shootout win over the Colorado Avalanche that stretched St. Louis winning streak to four straight. Elliott made 27 saves, stopping Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Ryan OReilly in the shootout, while Joakim Lindstroms goal in the second round of the tiebreaker was the winner. Lindstrom took a shot from the slot that beat Colorados Semyon Varlamov through the five hole. Ive been practicing quite a bit, Lindstrom said of being in the shootout. I was comfortable being in that position. The Blues were without T.J. Oshie (concussion) and former Avalanche center Paul Stastny (shoulder), but captain David Backes made a quick return after missing one game with a concussion. St. Louis is on its longest winning streak since taking five in a row from March 2-9 of last season. Kenny Golladay Womens Jersey . As the schedule flipped from November to December, they would go on to drop five straight, falling six games below the .500 mark before a franchise-altering trade turned them into an unrecognizable team. Ziggy Ansah Jersey . 1. CAVALIERS: At 19-20, theyre a mess. Watched the game Tuesday night vs. Phoenix and their defence was poor (107 points and 52 per cent for Suns). Where is the high level play from Kyrie Irving and LeBron James (13 turnovers!)? Kevin Love looks like a man thats wondering what he got himself into. http://www.shopdetroitlionsnfl.com/lion ... ck-jersey/. Head coach Randy Carlyle confirmed the news after the Leafs morning skate on Monday. Kozun was hurt during Friday nights home game against the Red Wings and did not make the return trip to Detroit for Saturdays game. Michael Roberts Jersey . Thaddeus Young scored seven of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Evan Turner added 22 points, and the 76ers hung on for their first road win since Nov. 1, beating the depleted Los Angeles Lakers 111-104 on Sunday night. Kerry Hyder Jersey . McCutchen was cut before the series opener against Seattle on Monday night, when Lewis was set for his first start for Texas since July 18, 2012. DAgostinis rebound goal at 11:49 of the third period lifted the Sabres to their fifth straight home win, a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. "Were never going for pretty," DAgostini said. Linus Omark found Steve Ott to the right of Devils goaltender Cory Schneider. Otts shot rebounded into the crease and DAgostini poked it into the net. "We kinda talked about getting inside on them a little more," DAgostini said. "Myself, Ive been skating good and getting shots but mostly from the outside. Getting inside and getting to the net is where you get most goals in this league." Matt Moulson also scored a power-play goal and Ryan Miller made 21 saves for the Sabres. Michael Ryder scored his 13th goal of the season for New Jersey, which has lost back-to-back games in regulation. Buffalos struggling power play broke out of its slump. They entered the game with just one goal in their past 22 power plays and had gone three games without converting with the man advantage. "It was a good feeling to get a couple on the power play tonight and it was just a matter of taking the puck to the net," defenceman Tyler Myers said. "Both goals we had a guy take the puck in and we had guys crashing and banging away. Thats what we have to do if we want to score." The Devils took two penalties in three minutes late in the second period. New Jersey forced a turnover and had two players alone on Miller during the first penalty, but Miller stopped Adam Henriques shot. "I want to be there to make a difference," Miller said. "If I had to come up with a few saves here and there, and thats one of them, I was happy to make it." The save injected some energy into the home crowd, as well as the Sabres. "The guys definitely feel the energy," Miller said. "Its important to hear that the crowds behind you and thats definitely one of those instances." Buffalo scored on the next opportunity. With 31 seconds left in the second period, Moulson shot a rebound past Schneider for his 14th goal of the season. "We need to keep doing that," Moulson said. "Get pucks to the net, get guys driving to the net and get those dirty goals." It was Buffalos first reegulation goal against New Jersey in more than 135 minutes of play going back to April 7, 2013.dddddddddddd The Sabres took a too many men penalty 6:03 into the third period and Myers was penalized two minutes for an illegal hit to the head of Dainius Zubrus less than a minute later. "I wondered why that wasnt a five-minute major but I didnt get an explanation for that," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. New Jersey had a 5-on-3 advantage and tied the game at the 7:46 mark when Ryder shot a loose puck over Millers shoulder. The Devils have scored a power-play goal in consecutive games after going without one for four games. With 10:03 gone in the third, Zubrus shoved Myers into the Sabres goal post and was called for interference. "You cant retaliate," DeBoer said. "He knows that. I think its too easy a target to pin the loss on him. I think the loss is pinned on the fact we couldnt score 5-on-5." On the ensuing power play, DAgostini backhanded a rebound past Schneider for his first goal in 26 games, dating back to April 18. "Now Im at one," DAgostini said. "As long as youre getting the chances, sooner or later theyll start falling for you. Hopefully Im on the other side now." Ott and Omark assisted on the goal, Omarks first point with the team since being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 19. Buffalo scored multiple power-play goals for just the second time this season, dating back to Oct. 8 against Tampa Bay. The Sabres got the games first power play when Steve Bernier interfered with Tyler Ennis in front of the Devils net. Myers had the best chance of the power play, but Schneider made the save with his blocker. Eight minutes into the second period, Brian Flynn was one-on-one with Schneider off a pass from Omark, but the Devils goaltender kicked away his backhand shot. Miller has won his past six home games, allowing just eight goals. The teams combined for just 11 shots on goal in the first period, with seven going to the Devils. NOTES: Devils LW Patrik Elias missed his second consecutive game with an upper body injury sustained Tuesday against Pittsburgh. ... Buffalo C Zenon Konopka played his first game for the club since being claimed off waivers from Minnesota on Friday. ... Devils assistant coach Mike Foligno is a former Sabre and father of Buffalo LW Marcus Foligno.
